This exhilarating competitive sport was born in the 18th century. Back then it involved competitors taking off across country to jump obstacles, but spectators were not happy with this format as they wished to follow the riders. This lead to jumping competitions being held in arenas, and thus showjumping as we know it today was born.

In today’s format showjumping involves a skilled horse and rider combination tackling 10 to 13 ‘knockable’ obstacles. Penalties are incurred for each obstacle that falls or is refused. In some classes riders ride against the clock, incurring time penalties for not completing the course within a set time limit.
