Breeze for Breeze in City of Sails

Breeze’s stint in retirement hasn’t lasted long, but her fantastic form has continued.

This morning, she and Katie Laurie (Mystery Creek) took out the City of Sails Classic Winning Round at EQUITANA Auckland, heading home a 12-strong field in the indoor arena.

Five went clear in the opening round, with the results deciding order of go in the second, where all started with a clean slate.

In the second, clears came from Jasmine Sketchley (Northland) aboard Bravado Ego Z, Maurice Beatson (Dannevirke) on Mandalay Cove, Laurie on Breeze and Amanda Wilson (Hikurangi) on Caretino Jewel.

Sketchley’s 43.46 second effort was soon bettered by Beatson, who came home in 39.18 seconds. Laurie and Breeze flew around to come home all clear in 37.77 seconds, leaving it to Wilson and Caretino Jewel.

She threw everything at it and despite a very hairy moment in the double that saw her almost lose her seat, finished the round with just a single stirrup and four faults, giving Laurie the win. Laurie was also fifth on Cera Caruso, who picked up four faults in the second round.
