In true form, organisers have added a twist to the evening, so expect to see not just superb performances, but lots of lights, sound and action.EQUITANA Auckland has introduced top titles in dressage Grand Prix and Freestyle, as well as showjumping.It’s an elite trans Tasman invite list who will line up. Included in the dressage line up for the EQUITANA New Zealand Open Freestyle crown are Australians Rozzie Ryan and Brett Parbery, who will take on Kiwis Wendi Williamson – New Zealand’s first-ever competitor at the FEI World Cup Dressage Final, Rio Olympic Games representative Julie Brougham, the colourful John Thompson, Jody Hartstone, Abbie Deken, Vanessa Way and more.The showjumping is also stacking up to be a thriller with Aussies Jamie Kermond and Jess Brown going head to head with our best, including New Zealand’s highest placed eventer at the Rio Olympic Games Clarke Johnstone, current Horse of the Year Olympic Cup holder Lily Tootill, one of New Zealand’s most crowned showjumpers Katie Laurie, the perennial Maurice Beatson, who has represented New Zealand at the Olympic Games, World Equestrian Games and World Cup final, along with Amanda Wilson, Samantha Morrison, William Willis, Matthew Dickey, Emily Hayward-Morgan, Lucy Olphert and Rose Alfred, among others.EquiMana – Saturday evening (November 25)Tina Fagan’s talents continue to inspire and amaze all who see her work her magic. EquiMana is her creation – it is where she will bring together the very essence of New Zealand’s culture with music, horses, dance and brilliant special effects.Fagan is one of New Zealand’s top horse trainers and her partner Marcus Ashwell is an award-winning dance instructor and competitor. They’re teaming up to produce this spine-tingling show that is guaranteed to have people talking about it for years to come.More than 100 people are performing in EquiMana, with 30-plus behind the curtains to ensure it all comes together.Fagan is pretty tight-lipped about just what the show will entail, but she is saying she and her team are giving a real Kiwi twist to international favourites.The Dressage Masterclass with Jonny Hilberath – Sunday afternoon (November 26)What a treat it is to have the Olympic Games gold medal winning German team coach Jonny Hilberath in New Zealand. His incredible training methods continue to produce world class results for his students.Regardless of what stage you are at as a rider, or as an interested spectator, Hilberath’s masterclass will give you plenty to take away. Hilberath is the star dressage presenter at EQUITANA Auckland, and this event offers the only opportunity to learn from him.His training methods come down a few simple rules – get the basics right and the rest will be easier to achieve. Hilberath believes that a harmonious connection between horse and rider will be rewarded many times over.Sunday’s two-hour masterclass is part of the Super Sunday of Dressage, which also includes the EQUITANA New Zealand Open Grand Prix Dressage competition.So dress in your finery and be part of what promises to be one of the highlights of the social scene in Auckland this year.
